Google celebrates Earth Day with 6 animated doodles

Earth Day 2014 has been made exciting with a collection of six animated doodles on the Google homepage. Once you click on the doodle, it changes between species like the Rufous hummingbird, veiled chameleon, moon jellyfish, dung beetle, puffer fish as well as a pair of Japanese macaques who all wish you a “Happy Earth Day 2014!”

The animated doodle shows the natural habitats of these species & the significance of safeguarding them. The message is very much clear that we must protect nature if these species have to survive.

In the first doodle, a Rufous Hummingbird waves rapidly as 2 flowers take the place of the 2 Os of the word Google. You are supposed to click on the screen for the following doodle to turn up in a slideshow format. The 2nd doodle displays 2 Japanese macaques shivering in snow and substituting the two Os again. After this comes a moon jellyfish moving upwards in water.

The next doodle consist of a puffer fish moving in circular motion, followed by veiled chameleon that partly covers the Google logo. Lastly, a dung beetle is displayed moving a dung-ball which is way too big compared to its own size.

Everytime when you click on the doodle, it changes to another animal and so does the message that comes with it. Google has added a share button under the doodle, as well. And once you click on it, Google shares the doodle on Twitter, Facebook or Google+.

2014 marks the 44th anniversary of the Earth Day. The whole idea was of Gaylord Nelson, then a US Senator from Wisconsin. He conceived the idea after seeing the 1969 extensive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California.

Earth Day is now celebrated in approximately 192 countries, with activities being organized by the nonprofit Earth Day Network, chaired by the first Earth Day coordinator Denis Hayes.

Following is the Earth day anthem:

Joyful joyful we adore our Earth in all its wonderment

Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise

Now we must resolve to protect her

Show her our love throughout all time

With our gentle hand and touch

We make our home a newborn world

Now we must resolve to protect her

Show her our love throughout all time

With our gentle hand and touch

We make our home a newborn world
